How to make natural body lotion and face lotion at home.
Homemade lotions and creams are cheaper and just as affective as storebought lotions, but with some added benefits like the fact that they do not require a preservative. Making your own homemade lotions is a good idea because it means you know every ingredient contained in them and you know that they are all GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN.
But before you can begin cooking up your own homemade lotion recipes there are a few things you need to know.
All face or body creams require three basic componets. A liquid oil, Water, and an emlusifier which serves as a bonding agent to keep the oils and water from seperating. Adding solid oils like coco or shea butter to your lotion recipes will thicken them. Adding more water will thin them out. However always remember that adding water to a lotion recipe makes it easier for bacteria to grow, so these lotions should be refrigerated or used within a reasonable period of time.
You can also experiment adding different essential oils or herbal extracts to your lotion recipes. Click here to read about the properties of many commonly used herbal extracts and essentail oils.
Some of the lotion ingredients you may discover you already have at home include:

- Aloe vera Gel
A simple recipe for natural homemade face cream.
To start with heat up equal amounts of water and vegetable oil on the stove. The best way to heat up the oil is by putting it inside a jar and then placing the jar inside a saucepan full of hot water. You can then heat up the water in a seperate saucepan. Start with a half cup of each.
Next add about two tablespoons of beeswax to the jar containing the oil, and let it melt. Once it's melted into the oil, begin slowly blending some of the hot water to the mixture. Your lotion will become thinner depending on how much water you put in, so stop adding the water once it gets to a consistency you think is good. keep in mind that it will also thicken somewhat as it cools.
That's it. That's all it takes to make your own homemade face or body cream. Now all you have to do it let is cool off.
Of couse most people will want to add to this basic recipe, with herbs and essential oils to make a skin care lotion that is more personalized for their type of skin. It's quite easy to add herbs just let them steep in the boiling water, until they make a nice tea, and then strain the water before adding it to the oil. You can also add fruit juice, and essential oils. Just remember you will need to refrigerate your lotion or use it quickly as it does not contain preservatives and will be perishable.
